I read the book Mafia Cop and had questions that were not answered. They have been answered and I honestly believe these two cops were dirty. They used a badge to murder and betray cops not only in New York but around the world. As a former police officer I am very glad they were convicted and will spend the rest of their lives in prison.

This is an amazing and informative book. Micheal, Tommy, and David are incredible writers! This book really goes into detail on how these mafia cops were brought to justice. What makes it more interesting is that the authors of the book helped do so! They cover all the details about this case and how it started off as a cold case. This is what the world needs more of. People that really care about our society and want to make the world a better place. I recommend this book to anyone that loves mafia content or true crime. 10 out of 10 !! Michael, Sal and I look forward to having you on our podcast!

An excellent account of a newspaper reporter's attempt to opening a cold case involving several policemen involved with the Mafia. An extremely interesting account of how a reporter, the DA's office and the state reopen an old cold case in an attempt to bring justice to victim's families an others falsely accused.

Interesting the rift between federal and the state agencies due to egos and the need to be highly commended despite the state doing the bulk of the investigation. Justice was served nonetheless

This is a most excellent read and true version of the real deal. A NYC detective, bored, and a few months away from what he felt was a forced retirement, makes a promise to a mother and the rest is simply explosive. Wait until you read how he finally nails them. The one piece of the puzzle he needed to pull it all together. You won't believe it.
Bonnie S. Akridge

What a book! I couldn't put it down. While telling the true story of two of the most dirty and despicable cops in the history of law enforcement, the authors keep you riveted as explain the ups, downs, and advances and setbacks associated with this rollercoaster of a case. It was a great read!

THIS BOOK SHOULD BE MADE INTO A MOVIE.THANK YOU
TOMMY,PONZI, AND MIKE. YOU GUY'S ARE THE BEST.
TWO BAD COP'S ARE DONE. GOOD RIDDANCE!!
Stephanie Lehman

I found this book to be well detailed and researched. I was surprised at the level of corruption of the two men, and their complete lack of concern for the badges they wore.
Elizabeth

Greta read, it flowed very nice, keeping you involved. As a former police officer and author, I could appreciate the different characters and their role in the story.
Richard Ellwood

If not for the hard work of one NY detective, the two dirtiest cops in NY history would live a nice retirement
Roger Clark

Loved every minute of it! I would highly recommend reading this selection. I couldn't put it down. Very good read.
Suzy

Very good,as a retired law enforcement officer this book was on the money!

I found this Book in my Local "BOOKS A MILLION" Bookstore and it was a Wonderful read .I have to admit I had read in other Books the Basic Story of some of the Major Players "GASSPIPE" Anthony Casso ...Feldman the Federal Prosecutor and other members of Organized Crime,But it was very well presented and edited perfectly ...it Flowed and was hard to put down .How lucky we are to have Honorable Law Enforcement officers like Tommy Dades and his Partner who pursued this case with the Tenacity of two Starving Pitbulls chasing a Tender loin .The Intuitive Mistrust by Tommy Dades of the Federal Prosecutors was Amazingly on the Money ...it's nice to read when Good Prevails over EVIL.....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Authors really did a great job in writing this book . Factual true account of a mob connected Criminal who’s life reads like a Hollywood movie ! Can’t wait to read the next book that Mr. Vecchione and Mr. Schmetterer wrote!!

If you think there is no connection between true crime stories and “news you can use,” this book will convince you otherwise -- immediately, and urgently. On the one hand, it is the true account of doctors and nurses who murder hospital patients, and the administrators who care more about the reputation of their hospitals than they do about exposing crimes to public view. On the other hand, and perhaps most importantly, it sounds a clarion call at very high decibels about the risk anyone could face, and how, armed with this knowledge, there are questions we, as potential patients, should ask prior to ever needing the services of our local hospitals.

Both sides of this story are told in the first person by Bruce Sackman, who rose to national prominence in the federal government’s Veterans Affairs Department by bringing to justice medical serial killers. The stories are real, and really terrifying. Some of the accounts have been the subject of other books; the great value here is that Sackman’s experiences in tracking down murdering doctors and nurses is so authentically told. The writing by Jerry Schmetterer, author of five previous, excellent true crime books, and the insights brought to this project by former Brooklyn rackets investigator Michael Vecchione, make this a totally compelling read.

Sackman readily admits that no one is sure how many patients have been murdered by health care professionals. In considerable details, he explains the difficulty in detecting hospital murders, and the extent to which hospital administrators have gone to conceal their suspicions, and, in too many instances, to ignore serious allegations brought to their attention to dedicated nurses. Fortunately, Sackman's empathy for the victims and their families led him to formulate what he calls the Red Flags Protocol, an A-to-Z guide for detecting, exposing, arresting, and convicting hospital murderers. The protocol is now widely in use at hospitals around the country.

Before reading this book, I had something akin to blind faith in the bona fides of health care staffs and the competency of those who run hospitals. Now, not so much. My plan, before hospital care becomes an issue, is to confirm that hospitals within my community have and follow Sackman’s protocol. Any that don’t, I’m not going.
Bob Crane

Engaging read on a regrettably grim reality as found by Bruce Sackman and his team. A testament and tribute to professionals who are filled with passion for justice. Thanks to investigators, agents, and medical professionals like Bruce Sackman and his team, crimes that would have gone undetected and unpunished were resolved. Going beyond the stories, the Red Flags Protocol developed is a great tool to detect similar crimes in the future. A must-read for healthcare investigators.
Sheila Tagle

This is SUCH an interesting book for anyone who loves true crime! Bruce Sackman's stories are unbelievably captivating and he has a talent for conveying exactly how much went into these investigations. If you or someone you love is interested in medicine and/or true crime, don't hesitate to buy this book!

Absolutely riveting! And terrifying! A meticulously Gritty, gutsy and compelling. Mike Vecchione, the author, should be greatly admired by everyone who reads this book.

By far and away, the Gerald Garson story is the most fascinating. Garson was involved in the most despicable conduct. Routinely, women would lose custody of their children in return for cash, cigars, and a good restaurant meal. We have heard that complaint before from the dregs of the bench,"We don't make enough". Well if you wanted more you shouldn't have been a public servant. Vecchione is presented as the prosecutor on steroids. The story is a Fairy Tale. Vecchione got plenty of press. Garson served only one year of a ten year sentence and did a stint in an alcohol rehab program. Siminovsky, who had a deal for no jail time saw his deal reneged on by the local Judicial Syndicate who were afraid that it could happen to them. Garson collected his State Pension even while in prison. The local hacks who pick the Judges and "lecture" them on their "needs" continued on their merry way. This was one giant PR stunt that accomplished nothing in the way of cleaning up the corrupt system. In fact, it virtually guaranteed that no one would ever complain about a Judge again. Remember, corruption breeds cynicism. What would have worked? Garson completing 10 years instead of one, leniency for Siminovsky, the Whistleblower, and no public pension for officials who violate their oath of office. To date in NY State, only Duane Hart was denied his pension.

Since I have lived in Brooklyn for many years and my husband who has worked in the court system knows many of the people mentioned in this book I found it to be a great and interesting read.
Susan J. Shapiro

THIS IS AN EXCITING READ. EACH PROSECUTION IS FOR A CRIME THAT IS SO BOLD AND UNIQUE THAT IT SEEMS LIKE A WORK OF FICTION. EXCEPT THE CRIMES ARE REAL. THE PROSECUTOR IS REAL. AND YES THE
PERPATRATORS WENT TO JAIL. AND THE READERS ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD THE AUTHORS WRITE THIS BOOK OF OUTSTANDING NONFICTION ABOUT CROOKED BROOKLYN.
Mortimer Matz

An insightful, fast paced account of a Rackets Bureau Chief's battles with corrupt judges and politicians, organized crime, brutal killers and, in this most crooked of boroughs, a body snatcher who made millions illicitly selling body parts of the dead for transplant to the living. I read it non-stop. So did my wife.
William Sherman

I enjoyed reading this story. It was hard to put down. I read it in 2 days. I have always been interested in the Mafia. The story is written in plain, every day English with very little slang or idiom. I actually remember reading about some of the characters in local newspapers during the time when the story takes place.

If you want to know the true details of the biggest scandal in the history of the NYPD? This is the book. These 2 Detectives were doing hits for the mob. If not for the great work of a group of investigators, they would have gotten away with it. Really enjoyed it!
Michael Calandra

I didn't expect too much from this book. It was practically given to me by Amazon Prime, and for that reason I thought this would be a dud. I ended up staying up half the night reading this thriller of a book, I literally couldn't put it down. Great read.

very well written and very interesting as to how the two corrupt cops were caught. Enjoyed it very much
Paul J. Natelli

A very insightful and fact-filled book about corruption in law enforcement, perpetrated by a small group of dirty cops that taints the good name of all!
Zane Sterling

This is a fascinating look at how law enforcement and criminals can get intertwined. The temptation was just to great and these cops went bad.

This book read like fiction. Very well written and informative. I had heard about this story before but this book shared many more details. One of the best mafia books i read.

This book was absolutely amazing! Luigi went through a lot in his life since he was a mafia hitman. Luig had so many deadly stories that he shared with Michael. Michael did such a great job covering Luigi’s story. Michael spent a lot of time with Luigi and he was really able to capture the way Luigi talked all the way down to how he walked. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in mafia history. Luigi testified in lot’s of historical cases.

Bruce Sackman, and his colleagues, wrote a great book about MSKs (medical serial killers) loose in the V.A. system, and, how Bruce, and his associates brought down the infamous doctor, Michael Swango - who had been passed from one facility to another, due to fear of liability, and in doing such, these hospitals/VA centers, and elsewhere, allowed a suspected/known MSK to continue killing innocent people/patients. It is with gratitude for the dedication of the staff who assisted Bruce in bringing down Swango, and, with the help of his co-authors, to expose a national trend, in many facilities, whether by nurses, doctors, or other medical staff who abuse, and/or kill, or contribute to early deaths of many patients throughout this country, on a daily basis. It happens in other countries, too, as Swango left the U.S. to go to Africa and (escape the heat) work for a while, and G-d only knows how many Swango may have killed over there. G-d rest the souls of the deceased victims, and comfort their families. I appreciate that someone cared enough to pursue this MSK, and then to write about it, to make the public aware. I have been subjected to horrendous medical nightmares and abuses by a host of doctors, nurses, and medical staff, which should never happen...but, in this country, and at least in this state, Florida, it seems as though the medical providers are protected in so many ways, and patients, who have a host of Patients' Rights - still remain victimized, and though a patient could be arrested and charged with a felony for abusing (verbally and/or physically) any medical staff - who is going to look out for the patients who are victims of abuses by these medical providers?? We need more people like Bruce, and, more staff like those named in this book, to come forward, and help stop the abuse and/or deaths of patients. We all deserve proper medical care, and to be free of harm in hospitals and/or doctors' offices. I hope everyone takes the time to read this important true crime story, and, to learn how to speak up and stand up for yourself, and your loved ones when we/they are being abused, or injured, intentionally, or due to willful misconduct. Thank you to Bruce, and his partners who wrote this novel Please read it, share it, and look into your own medical care, and take a stronger and safer approach to whom you see, and get your medical records - you might just be surprised how much of your records contain false, misleading, or other improper data, which in today's world of EHRs (electronic health records), is being spread around to most all of your providers, and it is time to put a stop to these antics. They are not G-ds, though they may have G-d like egos, though G-d does not do harm, and, is on (y)our side...not these "Devils in White Coats," as I call them. Pat attention to what Bruce shares, and how me made a difference, and so can you! Thank you.
JO

When I think of a "serial killer" I picture a Wayne Gacy or Norman Collins. NEVER do I think about physicians in a white lab coat with official hospital badges dangling below their embroidered name. Mr. Sackman gives a riveting account of how "MSK's" (medial serial killers) were discovered, the uphill battle it is to prosecute them, how widespread the problem is, why medicine is a perfect setting for a would-be killer to gravitate to and what can be done to detect a MSK early in their "killing career."
L. Hewitt

Absolutely riveting! And terrifying! A meticulously written true tale of sociopaths who prey on the most vulnerable, our veterans, under the guise of being a medical professional. I know these stories to be true from unfortunate experience, and at last Bruce Sackman et al have exposed this most evil of crimes. Thoroughly researched and documented, this is a must read, and a terrifying look at medical serial killers. Terrific!

We all suspect there is a dirty side to politics but even more shocking is a corrupt legal system manipulated by money. This books captures all the under belly of our real world through the lens of the lead prosecutor. Taking down high level judges is the most troublesome exposed in this book. It is a must read and will hopefully help clean up some of the corruption that permeates our society! I predict several movies and TV shows based on these cases where true crime is at its zenith in Brooklyn
Windy

What I loved best about this book was that it was such an enjoyable read. I found each case compelling and I had to occasionally remind myself I was reading nonfiction. It was great to be able to live vicariously as a crime fighter and I applaud people like Michael Vecchione who spend their lives trying to ensure justice for all. You won't be disappointed.
The Professor

True stories that sound a lot like Law and Order the series, Excellent work that explores the world of crime in Brooklyn. In addition Vecchione pulls no punches in exposing corruption in the legal system. Easy read but exciting and revealing material. Vecchione was also featured in a short-lived reality series that aired the summer of 2013 on CBS: Brooklyn DA..
